OPEN SOURCE & GEO MONITORING SEARCHING

Participants will learn new search engine resources and how to properly conduct advanced Internet and social media searches, as they will also learn of search tools that go beyond the generalized Google resource, and are specific to investigative needs. Specialized search engines for people, social media, non-profits, older online material, and so on will be covered. Alert services, both free and fee based will also be introduced.

  • Free, fee and geo-focused online monitoring tools to be covered
  • A rundown of specialized subject specific search engines
  • Learn how to keep up with new engines that make themselves available for investigations and research

Cynthia Hetherington has provided numerous corporate security officials, military intelligence units, and federal, state and local agencies with training on online intelligence practices. Her company, the Hetherington Group, is a national consulting, publishing and training firm specializing in intelligence, security and investigations.

DARK WEB SEARCHING

Participants will gain an understanding of the fundamentals of the www and how the dark web fits into it. This takes off into a discussion, with examples, of how to locate common hubs and resources on the dark web and explore what they have to offer. Completing this session, we will create actionable leads out of an investigation by way of a few case studies.

  • Identify and explain the dark web, so you can explain it to others
  • Locate common hubs in the dark web and find your products
  • Turn those leads into actionable items to disrupt their network
