Throughout the year, Hetherington Group offers monthly live webinars on current investigative tactics involving social networks, search engines, due diligence, the dark web, and other related topics. Participants should have some basic experience of the topic, as all programs are offered at an intermediate level, unless otherwise noted.

All Hg training classes are approved as continuing professional education credits by ACFE, NASBA, DHS, LPF, SHRM, and ASIS. Individuals will earn continuing professional education credits for attending the live webinar. These webinars are also available after the live event; however, they are not approved for CEU credits with some associations (specifically NASBA).

January 20, 2022: Google Dorking: A Guide to Getting Seasoned, 60 minutes, 1 CEU

The ability to uncover information on the internet is the primary skill of an online investigator. The go-to resource for many is Google, yet not everyone knows how to utilize its full potential. This OSINT webinar expands your general knowledge of the search engine, making difficult searches more effective.

Participants will learn how to maximize Google searches, as we cover the basics, the hacks, and extra Google resources to create proper search strategies and run advanced internet searches. Participants will also learn the expert tools of this common search application to make difficult searches more effective.

February 17, 2022: Domestic Background Checks, 60 minutes, 1 CEU

Rich with sources, this intermediate to advanced hands-on course teaches the ins and outs of conducting online investigations of an individual, whether it’s to locate the background of potential suitors, new hires, or the people next door. Participants will learn the ins and outs of conducting online investigations of an individual. You will be introduced to a plethora of databases, free resources, and techniques for locating a person’s history.

Upon completion, field investigators will be able to

  • Learn how to deconstruct social media profiles for your background checks
  • Understand the public records that support your cases and help inform your reports
  • Create said reports and deliver them to clients

March 17, 2022: Social Media Investigations: Targeting 101, 60 minutes, 1 CEU

Participants will learn how to discover intelligence by investigating popular social media platforms and search engines as well as gain knowledge of new social media platforms on the horizon. During the training, you will review social media pages, learn how hashtags and images can play a role in a case, and identify further leads. Participants will learn how to open every aspect of social media to explore where key information can be hidden or overlooked. You will identify which search engine to use, when to use it, and what results you should expect from each by conducting hands-on advanced internet and social media searches. We will also evaluate and review several free and fee-based resources on the market for locating unique information and monitoring social media. Focus will be on popular platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, and Instagram, among others.

Upon completion of the course, field investigators will be able to

  • Conduct social media investigations using specialized search engines

April 14, 2022: Private Tools & Databases for Due Diligence Investigators, 60 minutes, 1 CEU

Regardless of your investigative ability, learning the critical thinking tactics to research and conduct due diligence analyses will enable you to arm your clients with the intelligence they need to make proactive decisions in life and business. This rich and informative webinar will cover the steps needed to conduct due diligence, whether public or private, foreign or domestic. We will focus on the completion of a due diligence report by utilizing a wealth of information: public records, legal filings, newspapers, magazines, trade journals, blogs, and open source material. May 26, 2022: Event Monitoring: Extremism & Other Security Team Work Online, 60 minutes, 1 CEU

From parties to raves, active shooters to civil unrest, and bad weather to travel disruptions, event monitoring is the gold standard for monitoring and responding to event crises. In recent years, online investigators are more frequently tasked with monitoring local to global events to aide in the rapid response of boots-on-the ground intelligence teams. This rich and informative OSINT webinar will address the nuances of online security teamwork, event monitoring protocols, and data collection and reporting. It will include a live fire exercise to help field investigators understand how to balance the intensity of these types of OSINT investigations with the stresses of event monitoring.

We’ll also discuss how to capture content in five popular services, so you can present it in your reports. Each webinar covers a single social media platform and its specific details.
